The opening of Dogpatch Labs Europe today was the culmination of many months of work: understanding Dublin’s technology ecosystem, identifying the right Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) to lead the new site, and locating a home for a new community of residents.
We celebrated the launch of this new community with many leaders and neighbors who will be integral to Dogpatch Labs Europe’s success, including Taoiseach Enda Kenny, our advisors at Innovation Fund Ireland and the National Pensions Reserve Fund, as well as colleagues from nearby technology companies, including Twitter, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Zynga, PayPal, eBay, AOL, and Yahoo.
Our Dogpatch communities in other vibrant technology hubs – Cambridge, Mass., New York, N.Y. and San Francisco, Calif.—have produced encouraging results. Over the last two years, there have been 500 residents and 300 companies in Dogpatch Labs. To date, more than 100 Dogpatch companies have received funding, with financing ranging from $100 thousand to $10 million. Over $140 million has been invested in Dogpatch Labs companies, and 13 companies have moved to acquisition.
Common threads exist across Dogpatch communities: technology company neighbors, academic centers, talented resident-entrepreneurs, and supportive EIR’s who manage each location: Gus Weber in Cambridge and San Francisco (soon Palo Alto); Matt Meeker in New York, Ryan Spoon in San Francisco (soon Palo Alto); and now Noel Ruane in Dublin.
We also announced today that we will be relocating our Dogpatch in San Francisco to Palo Alto. The San Francisco Dogpatch enjoyed incredible success, and we are confident that with Ryan Spoon and Gus Weber
managing the transition to Palo Alto, we will be able to develop a new, equally vibrant community of entrepreneur-residents in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Lastly, we are excited to have a new, permanent PVP office in Palo Alto. This location supports the firm’s broad focus: technology, biotechnology, medical technology and healthcare services.
