Next Thursday, April 30, 2015, Polaris, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) at MIT, will host our 3rd annual career development symposium for MIT post-doctoral students. This year’s event, “Postdoc 2.0: Exciting Careers in Emerging Companies,” will bring together some of the finest PhD professionals in Boston to discuss how they came to enjoy successful careers outside of academia. Our hope is that we will inspire the audience to consider applying their talents at the multitude of emerging startup companies in New England and across the country.

Since inception in 2013, our collaboration with MIT has served as both an educational and networking opportunity for postdocs as they consider next steps in their professional journey. With over 1500 postdocs pursuing a program of research and training at MIT, we here at Polaris see enormous potential for mutually beneficial relationships between postdocs and the startup community.

We don’t just talk the talk – we walk the walk. Three of our investing partners hold Ph.D.s – Amir Nashat and Paulina Hill from MIT – and Kevin Bitterman from Harvard Medical School. Further, we are always looking for top Ph.D. talent at our portfolio of companies which numbers more than 100.
Polaris Partner Alan Spoon, who has spearheaded this event for Polaris since inception, puts it best:

“The early-stage company community around Cambridge and Boston is thriving thanks in no small part to the talent that resides here. The appetite for extraordinary science and technology professionals only grows and MIT is an obvious source of the best and brightest minds. We are honored to be a part of this event which brings together extraordinary individuals with tremendous passion for what they do. Here’s to having them do more of it together!”
